Xiaomi appears to be expanding its smartphone lineup once again, and this time the spotlight is on the Poco M8 Power. Fresh leaks suggest that the upcoming Poco handset could make its debut in India with hardware similar to the recently launched Redmi Note 17. While the company has not officially confirmed the device, references reportedly found in HyperOS source code hint that its launch may not be far away.
Interestingly, the leak also indicates that Redmi Note 17 models sold in different regions could feature different battery capacities, with global versions expected to receive slightly smaller batteries than their Chinese and Indian counterparts.
Poco M8 Power May Be a Rebranded Redmi Note 17
According to information shared by tipster Kacper Skrzypek on X, Xiaomi’s HyperOS code reportedly includes references to a new Poco smartphone carrying the model number 2602IPC8I. The code allegedly identifies this device as the Poco M8 Power.
The tipster also claims that the handset has a Redmi counterpart with model number 26021RN18I, believed to be the standard Redmi Note 17. This suggests Xiaomi may once again follow its familiar strategy of launching the same hardware under different brand names for different markets.
Earlier reports had also pointed to a Poco device with a similar model number appearing on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification database, further fueling speculation about its upcoming launch in India.

Redmi Note 17 Global Variant Could Feature a Smaller Battery
The leak further suggests that Xiaomi may continue its regional hardware strategy for the Redmi Note 17 lineup. The Chinese version of the Redmi Note 17 comes equipped with a massive 8,000mAh battery, along with 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging support.
However, the global version is reportedly expected to arrive with a slightly reduced 7,700mAh battery, while the Indian variant is said to retain the larger 8,000mAh battery found in the Chinese model.Although the battery capacity may differ across regions, the overall hardware is expected to remain largely unchanged.
Redmi Note 17 Pro May Follow the Same Strategy
A similar approach could also be adopted for the Redmi Note 17 Pro.The smartphone was recently introduced in China with a huge 9,000mAh battery and support for 67W fast charging. According to the latest leak, Xiaomi may keep the same battery size for the Indian version, while the international model could feature a slightly smaller 8,340mAh battery.
“The Poco M8 Power may continue Xiaomi’s successful strategy of bringing Redmi hardware to global markets under the Poco brand.”

This wouldn’t be the first time Xiaomi has adjusted battery capacities for different markets due to regional regulations or product positioning.
Camera Differences May Also Be Expected
Besides battery changes, the leak hints at a minor camera modification for international Redmi Note 17 models. While the Chinese variant includes a 2-megapixel depth sensor, global versions are reportedly expected to replace it with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Such a change could offer users more practical photography options without significantly altering the overall camera setup.Other specifications are expected to remain similar across all regions.
